Wayne State defeats Saginaw Valley State 12-8 at Harwell Field

Wayne State University's baseball team secured a 12-8 victory over Saginaw Valley State at Harwell Field on Sunday. The Warriors, now with a 20-10 overall record and 9-4 in the GLIAC, maintained their lead throughout the game. Their opponents, the Cardinals, hold a 21-9 overall record and are 10-3 in the GLIAC. The two teams will face off again on Tuesday to conclude their regular season series.

The Warriors opened strong with four runs in the first inning and continued to add to their score with one run in the third, another in the fifth, four in the sixth, and one each in the seventh and eighth innings.

Kyle Ray from Woodhaven, Michigan, excelled as leadoff hitter with three hits out of four at-bats, scoring twice and drawing a walk. Other notable performances included Mason McGuire from Lyon Township with two hits out of four at-bats; Drew Hill from Grosse Pointe Woods with two hits out of five; CJ Maury from Brampton, Ontario; and Brady Blakita from Canton—all contributing multiple hits.

Ray was joined by Bennett Hitzelberger from Richmond, McGuire, and Jacoby Dale from Roseville in scoring twice each. McGuire also drove in three runs while Reagan Paulina from Highland and Hill contributed multiple RBIs.

Pitcher Ashton Potts improved his record to 3-1 after pitching five innings where he allowed three runs—two earned—on six hits along with three walks and two strikeouts. Relievers Keegan Pulford-Thorpe from Aurora and Cam Rosen from Ann Arbor handled the sixth inning.

Gavin Nash pitched for two-and-two-thirds innings allowing three earned runs on four hits while issuing two walks and striking out one batter. Evan Langlois closed out the game by securing the final out against Saginaw Valley State.
