Kayla Giroux, a junior from Flat Rock, Michigan, and a member of the Wayne State University volleyball team, has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. This marks her third time receiving this honor in her career and her first for this season. Giroux has now received recognition from the league four times since joining the Warriors, with three offensive awards and one defensive.
In recent matches against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan, both of which resulted in sweeps for Wayne State, Giroux achieved a .585 hitting percentage. She accumulated 31 kills without any attack errors on 53 attempts. This performance marked only the second instance in her career where she played consecutive matches without an attack error.
Giroux's efforts have elevated her season hitting percentage to .436, leading the conference by over four percent and placing her fourth nationally in Division II. Additionally, she ranks 34th nationally in points per set (4.44) and 41st in blocks per set (1.18). Her career hitting percentage stands at .368, potentially setting a new program record.
The Wayne State Warriors have won four of their last six matches. They are scheduled to face No. 2 Ferris State on Friday night at 6 p.m.
