Wayne State University's men's cross country team has strengthened its roster with the addition of two new athletes, Sean Pettis from Fremont, Michigan, and Andrew Yax from Clio, Michigan. Head coach Grant Lofdahl announced the signings as part of his efforts to bolster the team's lineup for 2024.
Pettis will graduate from Fremont High School in 2024. He was a three-year cross country letterwinner under coach Cliff Somers and competed at the MHSAA Division 2 state meet during his last three seasons. Pettis placed 13th as a senior and achieved a personal-best time of 15:24.1 at the Cougar Falcon Invite in 2023. "We are very excited about Sean's potential as a Warrior student-athlete," said Coach Lofdahl.
Yax is set to graduate from Clio High School in 2024 after being a four-year cross country letterwinner. He competed at the MHSAA Division 2 state final meet for three consecutive years, placing 25th as a senior with a personal-best time of 15:47.8. "Andrew is a guy who we liked a lot from the start of the recruiting process," commented Coach Lofdahl.
The new additions join previous recruits Samuel Martini and Ethan Muraszewski, aiming to fill gaps left by departing athletes including All-Americans Ransom Allen and Zac Truman.
