Wayne state men's basketball team predicted to finish fifth in GLIAC preseason poll

The Wayne State University men's basketball team has been predicted to finish fifth in the 2024-25 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Preseason Poll. The announcement was made on Thursday afternoon. Rob Lee, Jr., a sophomore guard from Flint, Michigan, who earned the title of Freshman of the Year last season, has been selected for the Preseason Second Team All-GLIAC.

In the poll, each head coach ranked the other ten teams. Lake Superior State emerged as a favorite with nine out of ten first-place votes and a total of 98 points. Ferris State followed in second place with one first-place vote and 88 points. Northern Michigan secured third place with one first-place vote and 80 points, while Grand Valley State took fourth place with 77 points.

Wayne State's standing is ahead of several teams: Michigan Tech and Parkside both garnered 50 points, Saginaw Valley State obtained 41 points, Purdue Northwest had 32 points, Davenport received 17 points, and Roosevelt collected 15 points.

The GLIAC also announced its preseason teams. The First Team includes Tyson Edmondson from Lake Superior State, Ethan Erickson from Ferris State, Will Dunn from Grand Valley State, Dylan Kuehl from Northern Michigan, and Marcus Tomashek from Michigan Tech. The Second Team features Ethan Alderink from Grand Valley State, Rob Lee Jr. from Wayne State, Josiah Palmer from Parkside, Kingsley Perkins from Lake Superior State, and D'Juan "Toodles" Seal from Saginaw Valley State.

Marcus Tomashek of Michigan Tech has been named the GLIAC Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year for the upcoming season.

Wayne State recently concluded its final scrimmage against Division I Detroit Mercy with a narrow victory of 56-54 at Calihan Hall. The Warriors are set to commence their regular season on Friday, November 8th against new GLVC member Lincoln (Mo.), with an opening tip scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern time.
