Wayne State University's volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory over Davenport University on Saturday night, improving their overall record to 11-11 and 8-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). This marks the first time since 2018 that Wayne State has defeated Davenport twice in a row.
"This was an important win on the road for the Warriors," stated head coach Tim Koth. "Being able to rebound after the close match last evening against a much-improved Davenport team was critical for us. We executed very well down the stretch, and had some very good offensive performances from Molly and Katie tonight."
In the match, Wayne State achieved a hitting percentage of .233 with 57 kills and 22 errors on 150 total attacks. In comparison, Davenport registered a .176 clip with 45 kills and 17 mishaps on 159 attempts. The Warriors' strongest performance came in the third set, hitting .314, while Davenport's best was also in the third set at .294.
Molly Miller led Wayne State with notable contributions including reaching the 20-kill mark for the fifth time this season. She also recorded her sixth double-double of the fall season with 11 digs. Kendyl Andrews delivered a standout performance with a personal-best of 28 digs, surpassing her previous career high.
Assisting significantly in playmaking was Kayla Dulgar who provided 45 assists during the match. Both Kayla Giroux and Miller added two service aces each to their stats, while Giroux and Ella Uganski contributed defensively by blocking three attack attempts each.
Looking ahead, Wayne State will return home to face Lake Superior State on Friday for Family Night at Matthaei, with opening serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
