The 48th annual Wayne State University Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held on October 25, 2024, at The Eastern in Detroit. Among the inductees was Jeremy C. Jones, a former standout defensive back for the Warriors football team.
Jones had an illustrious career at Wayne State University (WSU) from 2008 to 2011. As a four-time letterwinner and two-year All-American, he set numerous records. He completed his WSU tenure with 291 tackles, ranking first among defensive backs in school history. Additionally, he holds the WSU record for career interception return yards (406), with his total of 17 interceptions being unmatched by any player over the last four decades.
His contributions included three interception returns for touchdowns—a feat that ties him for the most in program history over the past 75 years. Furthermore, Jones is second all-time at WSU with 23 pass break-ups and contributed significantly to defense with other stats like forced fumbles and tackles for loss.
During his time at WSU, Jones earned multiple honors including First Team All-GLIAC selections in both 2010 and 2011 after being named an Honorable Mention recipient during his earlier seasons. In recognition of his performance as a freshman, he was voted Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2008.
His junior year marked another milestone when he became the first defensive player from WSU to receive First Team All-America accolades from Daktronics while also earning Honorable Mention recognition from D2Football.com. His notable performances included tying an NCAA record with a touchdown-scoring interception return against Hillsdale.
In his senior season (2011), Jones received several All-American honors from organizations such as AFCA and Associated Press. He led the GLIAC in interceptions that year and achieved significant success during playoffs with impressive statistics including leading solo tackles and quarterback hurries.
After completing his degree in Psychology, Jeremy Jones briefly joined the NFL's Chicago Bears before returning to Michigan where he hails from Grand Rapids.
