The Wayne State University football team is set to face Roosevelt University, a new addition to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), this Saturday. This marks the first meeting between the two programs. The Warriors are returning home for their final two games of the 2024 season after concluding their road schedule at Grand Valley State.
Roosevelt University, known as the Lakers, recently secured their first GLIAC victory with a 16-10 overtime win against Northern Michigan on October 19. They bring a strong passing game led by quarterback Carson Budke, who has completed 55.8% of his passes for 1,749 yards and six touchdowns over eight games. Keonta Nixon leads in receiving with 764 yards and three touchdowns from 35 receptions, while Cyrus Zuell has been effective on the ground with six rushing touchdowns.
Wayne State's John Rayba increased his touchdown count to four this season after catching two passes at Grand Valley State. XaVior Tyus also contributed with his second career rushing touchdown in that game. The Warriors rank seventh nationally in offensive red zone efficiency, scoring on 21 out of 23 attempts.
Defensively, Wayne State has forced eight fumbles and recovered six this season. Carl Ware is tied for second in Division II for forced fumbles with four.
Griffin Milovanski continues his success as a place-kicker, extending his PAT streak to 61 consecutive successful attempts and tying for first in field goals made in WSU history.
Manny Harris showcased versatility with contributions both offensively and on special teams during recent games. Champion Edwards leads the team in rushing yards among quarterbacks, having achieved significant milestones earlier this season.
Myles McKatherine added another touchdown reception against Ferris State, leading the Warriors' receivers this season.
The Wayne State roster includes several returning letterwinners and features a veteran offensive line led by Aidan Tweedy and Charles Wesley. The team's depth includes players from various states across the U.S., primarily Michigan.
