The Wayne State University cross country teams are set to participate in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Race in Romeoville, Illinois. The event, hosted by Lewis University at the Lewis Cross Country Course, will see the men's team competing in a 10-kilometer race starting at 11:00 AM and the women's team in a six-kilometer race beginning at 12:15 PM.

Representing Wayne State's women in the 6K race are Reagan Justice, Briana Vojinov, Emily Gordon, Taylor Hopkins, Robin Bresolin, Mattie Drennan, and Aubrey Migoski. For the men’s 10K race, Tyler Buchanan, Sean Pettis, Carson Nicoletti, Brady Heron, Jared Platt, Ty Nagy, and Tyler Brothers will compete. Anna Gdowski and Griffin Conway are designated as alternates for both teams.

Head Coach Grant Lofdahl commented on the men's season challenges: "It's been an up-and-down season for our guys," citing illnesses and injuries but noted their perseverance. He highlighted Tyler Buchanan and Carson Nicoletti's experience and urgency due to it potentially being their final race. Freshmen Sean Pettis and Tyler Brothers were praised for their consistency.

Regarding expectations for the men's team performance: "On paper, we aren't a top-10 team going into the meet... gives us a chance to significantly out-perform other people's expectations."

Lofdahl also shared insights on the women's team's preparation: "This team has been solid and consistent all season." He mentioned Reagan Justice as a contender for a regional title while emphasizing Briana Vojinov's return to full health. He added that Emily Gordon, Taylor Hopkins, and Mattie Drennan bring valuable experience from previous regionals.

Excitement surrounds potential performances from Robin Bresolin and Aubrey Migoski: "I see either one or both of them as a potential secret weapon for us this weekend." The primary goal is securing a top-3 finish to qualify automatically for NCAAs.
