Wayne State ends losing streak with decisive win over Roosevelt

The Wayne State University football team achieved a significant victory by defeating Roosevelt University 38-14 at Tom Adams Field. This win marks the end of an 11-game losing streak for Wayne State, who now holds a record of 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the GLIAC. The game was notable as Wayne State had faced one of the toughest schedules in the nation, with their opponents having a combined winning percentage of .750.

In the first quarter, Roosevelt took an early lead with a touchdown pass from Carson Budke to Jack Young, Jr. However, Wayne State responded with a touchdown drive led by D'Marco Singleton's seven-yard run. The second quarter saw Wayne State take control with another touchdown drive completed by Jeremiah Sterling, Jr., although an interception by Jacob Bellizzi halted another potential scoring opportunity.

The third quarter featured turnovers that benefited Wayne State. A fumble recovery by Draven Wilson set up a short touchdown run by Sterling, Jr., and an interception by Carl Ware led to a 47-yard touchdown pass from Champion Edwards to Myles McKatherine. Despite Roosevelt's efforts to close the gap in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass from Zach Zella to Cyrus Zuell, Wayne State secured their lead with another scoring drive finished by Sterling, Jr.

Wayne State dominated in total offense with 350 yards compared to Roosevelt's 189 yards. They also excelled in rushing yards, gaining 228 while limiting Roosevelt to just 33 yards on the ground.

Sterling, Jr. was instrumental for Wayne State, rushing for three touchdowns and accumulating 79 yards. Edwards contributed through the air with one touchdown pass and McKatherine caught two passes for 73 yards. On defense, Clifton Buchanan, Jr. made nine tackles including a sack.

For Roosevelt University, Zuell led his team in rushing while Budke and Zella each threw a touchdown pass. Keonta Nixon was their leading receiver with seven catches for 74 yards.

Wayne State will conclude their season against Northern Michigan University on November 16th during Senior Day festivities.
