Wayne State University's fencing teams are preparing to compete in the NFC Championships at Brown University this weekend. The event, taking place at the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center in Providence, Rhode Island, will feature 12 programs including Wellesley, Tufts, Boston College, Sacred Heart, Wheaton, Vassar, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Wagner, Brandeis, Denison, and host Brown.

Head Coach Andy Tulleners is entering his second season with Wayne State after earning the title of Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Men's Team Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season. "This weekend is both our first event and one of our toughest of the season," Tulleners said. "The team is looking good and I think we are pretty well prepared for it."

Wayne State returns five student-athletes who received All-Conference honors last season. For the women's team, Salma Abdrabou from Egypt, Reka Galfalvy from Hungary, and Ludovica Mancini from Italy were named to the All-CCFC team. Galfalvy and Mancini earned First Team honors while Abdrabou was listed as Honorable Mention. On the men's side, Ethan Leung from Hong Kong and Eyad Marouf from Egypt return to compete after receiving Second Team and First Team recognition respectively.

Coach Tulleners expressed satisfaction with his team's preparation: "I am particularly pleased with how the team has slowly come together this last month and even into this week. As long as the team stays focused on what we have been training to do each and every touch, we will have a good weekend."
