Wayne State University's men's basketball team faced a challenging match against Lake Superior State, resulting in a 74-69 loss on Thursday night. The game took place at Bud Cooper Gymnasium, where the Warriors trailed by as many as 19 points before mounting a significant comeback.
In the first half, Lake Superior State established an early lead with the game's initial five points. Wayne State's Ray Williams, Jr. managed to get his team on the scoreboard shortly after. Despite efforts from Carmelo Harris and Carlos Paul III, who both contributed significantly to closing the gap, Lake Superior maintained a lead throughout the first half, ending it with a 39-26 advantage.
During the second half, Wayne State showed resilience. They narrowed their deficit twice within the first six minutes but soon found themselves trailing by 19 points again. However, an impressive 27-10 run led by Tamario Adley and contributions from multiple players brought them back into contention.
Despite these efforts, Lake Superior secured their victory through effective free throw shooting in the final moments of the game. The Lakers shot slightly better overall than Wayne State and capitalized on fast-break opportunities.
For Wayne State, three players scored in double figures: Adley with 24 points, Harris with 22 points marking his eighth career game scoring over 20 points, and Paul III adding another 11 points. Meanwhile, Lake Superior had five players scoring ten or more points each.
Looking ahead, Wayne State will travel to face No. 4 Ferris State for their next game on Saturday afternoon.
