Wayne State University's swimming and diving teams have received significant recognition from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) for their recent performances. On Tuesday, three athletes from the university were honored with weekly awards. Barbara Munoz was named Female Swimmer of the Week, Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru received Female Diver of the Week honors, and Max Wasiniak was recognized as Male Diver of the Week.

Barbara Munoz, a graduate student from Yumbo, Colombia, has now been honored twice this season and four times in her career. In a recent meet against Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), she won both the 200 free with a time of 1:55.07 and the 100 fly in 59.11 seconds. Her performance contributed to Wayne State's 141-97 victory over SVSU.

Sophomore Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru from Kalamazoo, Michigan, earned her third career honor this season. She excelled on both diving boards against SVSU, scoring 250.88 at one meter and 230.63 at three meters, leading to two first-place finishes among ten victories for Wayne State.

Max Wasiniak, also a sophomore from Huron, Ohio, secured his third award after winning on the one-meter board with a score of 281.55 and placing second at three meters with a score of 276.75 during the meet against SVSU.

The Wayne State swimming and diving teams will compete next at Grand Valley State University on Saturday at 1 p.m., where they will face highly ranked opponents; the Laker men's team is ranked fifth nationally by CSCAA while their women's team is ranked sixth.
