Wayne State University's swimming and diving teams are preparing for their final road dual meet of the 2024-25 regular season. The Warriors will compete against Grand Valley State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at GVSU's Fieldhouse Pool.

Head coach Sean Peters expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming meet, stating, "The Warriors are excited to head to Allendale to swim against the Lakers, and it will be a great test for our program." He acknowledged the strong national rankings of both teams, adding, "I believe both their men and women are in or around the top five in the country, and I look forward to the challenge."

Peters noted that despite facing some injuries and illnesses, Wayne State athletes are prepared to compete at a high level. He also appreciated GVSU coach Andy Boyce's agreement not to use tech suits during the meet. "In the meantime, we are excited to go out on the road and compete against one of the best in Division II," he said.

According to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) top 25 rankings, Wayne State's men's team is ranked 21st while the women's team is ranked 19th. Grand Valley State's men's team holds fifth place, with their women's team in sixth.

Both programs have experienced considerable success under veteran coaches. Peters is in his 28th year leading Wayne State, while Boyce has been at Grand Valley State for 18 years. The Warriors have won 20 GLIAC Championships (11 by women and nine by men), with their most recent title in 2018 by the women's team. The Lakers boast 19 league titles (13 by men and six by women), including a streak of ten consecutive wins by their men's team.

Following this weekend's meet, Wayne State will host Oakland University on January 18th at Matthaei Natatorium.
