The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field team kicked off their 2025 season at the Findlay Alumni Classic in Findlay, Ohio, on January 17. The competition included teams from host Findlay, Tiffin, and Cedarville.
Findlay secured first place with 68 points. Wayne State followed in second with 46 points. Tiffin and Cedarville finished third and fourth with 38 and 14 points respectively. The UF Oiler Alumni came in fifth with a total of 10 points.
In the individual events, Taylor Hopkins set a new school record in the 1,000 meters with a time of "2:58.35," surpassing the previous record held by Brittany Johnson since 2014. Emily Gordon claimed victory in the mile event clocking "5:05.34." In hurdles, Megan Zahnow led her team to success by finishing first in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of "9.27."
Other notable performances included Nicole Warren's win in the long jump event reaching "5.29m (17-04.25)" and Renae Kutcha securing second place in triple jump with "10.87m (35-08.00)."
Wayne State will next compete at the GVSU Bill Clinger Invite at Kelly Family Sports Center on January 24.
