Wayne State University's men's basketball team secured a victory against Michigan Tech, overcoming a four-point deficit to win 74-62. The game, held in Detroit, saw the Warriors improve their record to 11-10 overall and 7-6 in the GLIAC standings.
The first half of the game featured an early tie at 2-2 before Wayne State took control with a 13-5 run. This effort was led by Rob Lee, Jr., Ray Williams, Jr., and Tamario Adley. The Warriors maintained their lead until Michigan Tech closed the gap to one point just before halftime, with Marcus Tomashek contributing significantly for the Huskies.
In the second half, Michigan Tech briefly took the lead, reaching their largest advantage of eight points. However, Wayne State responded with an eight-point run that tied the game again. Despite Tomashek's efforts for Michigan Tech, including six three-pointers throughout the night, Wayne State dominated the final minutes of play.
During this decisive period, five Warriors contributed to a 22-6 scoring run that sealed their victory. Jordan Briggs and Carmelo Harris were among those who played key roles in this stretch.
Wayne State outperformed Michigan Tech in several statistical categories. They shot nearly 49% from the field compared to Michigan Tech's 38.6%. The Warriors also excelled at free throws and rebounding.
Adley led Wayne State with 20 points while Lee Jr., Paul III, and Harris also scored in double figures. Williams Jr. recorded a game-high 11 rebounds and narrowly missed a double-double.
For Michigan Tech, Tomashek was the standout player with 28 points but was unable to score during Wayne State's final surge.
Wayne State is set to face Northern Michigan next on Saturday at home.
