Wayne State University's softball team began its 2025 season with two victories at the Lincoln Memorial Invitational in Harrogate, Tennessee. The Warriors secured a 7-0 win against Kentucky Wesleyan and an 11-6 victory over Davis & Elkins but faced a narrow 8-7 defeat to Lincoln Memorial University.
In their first game, Wayne State broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the third inning. Sophomore Mia Hool reached base on a passed ball strikeout, followed by senior Rylie Josephson's single. Logan Forman's RBI single and Katelyn DeWitt's two-run double contributed to the early lead. Additional runs were added in subsequent innings, including contributions from Maddie Hool and Morgan Williams.
Junior Grace Fisher delivered a strong performance in her debut for Wayne State, pitching a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts.
The second game saw Wayne State lose to Lincoln Memorial in extra innings. Despite leading early, LMU came back to secure the win in the ninth inning. DeWitt was notable for her performance, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Sydney Long and Grace Fisher shared pitching duties for Wayne State.
In their final game against Davis & Elkins, Wayne State scored early and maintained their lead throughout the match. Jessie O'Donnell and Katelyn DeWitt played key roles offensively, while Elly Koopman earned her first career pitching victory.
Wayne State is set to continue its season next Friday at the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Illinois.
