Wayne State softball team heads to Chicago for Lewis Dome Invitational

Wayne State University's softball team will head to Chicago this weekend with a 2-1 record to participate in the Lewis Dome Invitational. The Warriors will face Bemidji State at 9 AM and St. Cloud State at 11 AM on Friday. On Saturday, they will play against host Lewis at 1:30 PM and conclude the tournament against Minnesota Duluth at 8 PM.

In their series history, Wayne State has faced Bemidji State once, securing a victory in 2016. Against St. Cloud State, the Warriors trail with a 2-5 record but won their first meeting in 1993. Wayne State leads Lewis with a 12-7 record despite losing the last three encounters. They also hold a strong lead over Minnesota Duluth with nine wins out of twelve games.

Freshman Katelyn DeWitt was named GLIAC Player of the Week after her performance in Tennessee, where she hit .667 with four extra-base hits and ten RBIs. Senior Rylie Josephson contributed significantly as well, hitting .625 with a .700 on-base percentage.

For Bemidji State, Jackie Larsen leads with a .500 batting average and Kennedy Joachim has recorded sixteen strikeouts this season. St. Cloud's Brooke Holmes boasts a .571 average and errorless defense so far this year.

Lewis enters the tournament after facing Grand Valley State earlier on Saturday; Nicole Magdziasz is currently hitting .486 for them. Minnesota Duluth's Nicole Schmitt stands out with a .600 batting average and seventeen RBIs.

Following this invitational, Wayne State plans to host Findlay for two games on March 2nd before heading to Florida for an eight-day stretch of games starting March 8th.
