Wayne State University's freshman third baseman, Katelyn DeWitt from Grand Blanc, Michigan, has been recognized as the GLIAC Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office.

DeWitt had an impressive beginning to her college career, contributing significantly to the Warriors' two victories and an extra-inning loss against No. 28 Lincoln Memorial. She achieved a batting average of .667, with eight hits in 12 at-bats, six runs scored, and ten RBIs. Her performance included four extra-base hits: three doubles and her first career home run, resulting in a slugging percentage of 1.167.

After striking out in her initial collegiate plate appearance, DeWitt hit a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning against Kentucky Wesleyan, increasing the score to 3-0. In her subsequent at-bat, she hit a ball to centerfield that allowed a runner to score from first base.

In the game against Lincoln Memorial, DeWitt went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs. She began with an RBI double in the first inning for the game's opening run. Later, she hit her first career home run in the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4 and added an RBI single in the fifth inning to give Wayne State a 6-5 lead.

During an 11-6 victory over Davis & Elkins, DeWitt recorded three hits in four at-bats with two runs scored and four RBIs. Her contributions included an RBI single during a four-run second inning and another RBI single in the third inning that increased their lead to 6-0. Additionally, she hit a two-run double in the fifth inning and earned a walk after working a full count in the seventh.

Wayne State is scheduled to participate in four games this weekend at the Lewis Dome Invitational held in Rosemont, Illinois.
