Wayne State sends athletes to NCAA championships

Five swimmers and three divers from Wayne State University's men's swimming and diving team are set to compete in the 2025 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships. The event will take place from March 11-15 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.

The selected swimmers include Redshirt Freshman Gabriel Arias, Freshman Olin Charnstrom, Freshman William Debroux, Graduate Student Trevor Jones, and Senior Clayton Kinnard. Their seeding positions in various events were announced as follows:

Gabriel Arias (Bogota, Colombia) holds seeds in four events: 11th in the 200 backstroke, 22nd in the 400 individual medley (IM), 27th in the 100 backstroke, and 45th in the 200 IM.

Olin Charnstrom (Oxford, Mich.) is seeded ninth in the 100 backstroke, along with additional placements in the 200 IM (23rd), 200 backstroke (24th), and 200 freestyle (28th).

William Debroux (Oro-Medonte, Ont.) has strong positions with a seventh seed in the 500 freestyle, eighth seed in the 1650 freestyle, and twelfth seed in the 1000 freestyle.

Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) is positioned at fifteenth for the 400 IM and holds additional seeds for other distance freestyle events.

Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.) has been seeded for multiple events including the 400 IM and breaststroke races.

For diving, Senior Julio Osuna from Tijuana will join Sophomores Max Wasiniak and John Martin on March 11 for prequalifications. Each diver will perform six dives per board with hopes of qualifying among nineteen competitors.

Wayne State's relay teams will also participate. The school competes in three relays: the 800 Free Relay with Charnstrom, Jones, Debroux, Kinnard; the 400 Medley Relay featuring Charnstrom, Kinnard alongside Lorenzo Tassinari and Tomas Osorio; and lastly the 400 Free Relay with Osorio leading off followed by Charnstrom, Jones, Kinnard.

The Warriors are optimistic about their prospects at this prestigious national competition.
