The Wayne State University women's tennis team secured a 5-2 victory against Hillsdale College on Friday afternoon, marking their second win of the season. The match took place in Hillsdale, Michigan, following a two-week break for the Warriors.
In doubles play, Wayne State clinched the first point by winning two out of three matches. Anais Ruyssen and Dea Gorgidze won their match 6-4 against Ane Dannhauser and Courtney Rittel. Malak Arafat and Shanice Weekes also emerged victorious with a 6-3 win over Elizabeth McGivern and Briana Rees. However, Justine Beaulieu and Shantala Uzcategui were defeated 6-3 by Isabella Spinazze and Megan Hackman.
In singles competition, Ruyssen had a challenging match but ultimately triumphed over Dannhauser with scores of 7-6, 1-6, 6-2. Arafat faced McGivern in the No. 2 position and won both sets after an initial tie in each set. Gorgidze overcame Briana Rees in a tie-breaker set after splitting the first two sets.
Weekes rallied from behind to defeat Rittel in straight sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Beaulieu lost to Julia Zlateva after three sets with scores of 6-4, 4-6, 0-1. Uzcategui also fell short against Hackman despite winning the first set; she lost the subsequent sets with scores of 7-6 and 1-0.
Wayne State's women's tennis team is scheduled to compete again on Saturday, March 8th against Keiser University during their spring break matches.
