Wayne State men's tennis falls to Barry University

Wayne State University's men's tennis team faced a setback against Barry University, losing 4-1 in Miami Shores, Florida. Both teams entered the match with a 7-2 record.

The Warriors initially showed promise by securing two victories in doubles play. Cedric Drenth and George Day defeated Leo Caill and Yan Kodjoed with a score of 6-3. Meanwhile, Benjamin Hill and Luis Klaus overcame Riccardo Trione and Simone Cavalleri, winning 7-6 (7-5). However, Sam Knowles and Tom Wasner were unable to beat Tim Riedel and Gabriele Felline, losing 6-4.

In singles competition, Wayne State struggled to gain traction. George Day was defeated by Gabriele Felline 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 position. Tom Wasner lost to Yan Kodjoed in the No. 3 spot with identical scores of 6-1, 6-2. Luis Klaus fell to Tim Riedel at the No. 4 slot after being tied early in the first set but ultimately losing 6-2, 6-0. Sam Knowles was overpowered by Simone Cavalleri in the No. 6 position with a decisive scoreline of 6-0, 6-0.

Cedric Drenth and Benjamin Hill did not complete their matches against Riccardo Trione and Azoulay respectively.

Looking ahead, Wayne State will continue its spring break trip with a match against Rollins College on Friday, March 7 at the USTA National Campus starting at 2:00 PM.
