Wayne State women's tennis concludes spring break trip with loss to Nova Southeastern

Wayne State University's women's tennis team faced a challenging match against Nova Southeastern University, resulting in a 6-1 defeat. This match marked the end of Wayne State's spring break trip. The team, ranked No. 23, competed against the No. 15-ranked Nova Southeastern squad on Tuesday afternoon.

In doubles play, Anais Ruyssen and Shantala Uzcategui were defeated 6-1 by Ita Habekovic and Kristyna Hranacova in the No. 1 position. However, Malak Arafat and Justine Beaulieu secured a victory for Wayne State by overcoming Sofia Shing and Isabella Ciancaglini with a score of 6-3. In the No. 3 spot, Dea Gorgidze and Dessyre Obedencio lost to Julia Moraes and Noemie Dadoun, 6-0.

The singles matches saw Uzcategui as the only player from Wayne State to achieve success, winning her match against Dadoun with scores of 6-3, 3-6, and a final tiebreaker of 10-6. Ruyssen was narrowly defeated by Hranacova in a closely contested match that ended with scores of 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), and a tiebreaker of 10-6. Arafat fell to Habekovic with scores of 6-3, 6-4.

Beaulieu was bested by Ciancaglini at the No. 4 singles position with scores of 6-4, 6-2. Obedencio faced Moraes in the No. 6 spot but was unable to secure a win, losing with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Gorgidze's match against Shing in the No. 3 slot ended prematurely due to retirement.

Looking ahead, Wayne State's women's tennis team will host Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday, March 15 at the WSU Tennis Courts. Matches are scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
