Wayne State University swimmers Barbara Munoz and Alli Vassilakos contributed to their team's performance at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis. On Friday evening, both athletes scored in the consolation finals of their respective events.
Alli Vassilakos, a senior seeded 28th for the 500 free, advanced her position significantly by placing ninth after the morning preliminaries. She improved her time by over a second during the finals, winning the consolation final with a time of 4:52.15 and earning nine points for Wayne State.
Barbara Munoz, a graduate student, was seeded ninth after preliminaries and finished 13th overall in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.17, contributing four points to her team's score.
Wayne State is currently tied for 19th place as they head into Saturday's final day of competition with a total of 42 points. Drury leads the championship standings with 358 points, followed closely by Nova Southeastern with 353 points. Other leading teams include Colorado Mesa (284), Indianapolis (272), Lynn (174), and Tampa (165).
