Wayne State men's tennis defeats Tiffin University with strong singles performance

Wayne State University's men's tennis team, ranked 17th, achieved a decisive 6-1 victory against Tiffin University. The match took place on Thursday afternoon and brought Wayne State's overall record to 9-4.

In doubles play, Cedric Drenth and George Day secured a win in the No. 1 position with a score of 6-1 against Erwan Colin and Martin Dreisner. Despite this success, Wayne State did not claim the doubles point as Sam Knowles and Tom Wasner lost 6-3 to Jose Portillo and Matt Weaver, while Benjamin Hill and Luis Klaus were defeated 6-4 by Lorenzo Perucchini and Romain Marionneau.

The singles matches saw Wayne State sweep all positions. Drenth earned his second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Dreisner in the No. 1 singles slot. Day also won his match against Marionneau with scores of 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 in the No. 2 position.

Wasner triumphed over Portillo at No. 3 singles with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-5, while Hill won against Janis Auslands at No. 4 singles, finishing with scores of 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). In the lower positions, Knowles beat Colin at No. 5 singles with scores of 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, and Klaus overcame Romain Nicolas at No. 6 singles by winning sets of 6-0, losing one set at 4-6 but securing victory with a final score of [10]-[4] in the tiebreaker.

Additional matches featured Cole Anderson defeating Weaver with scores of [no match count], while Max Faniel came back from an initial loss to defeat Perucchini in a match that went to three sets.

Head Coach Bryan Morrow commented on the performance: "Slow start in doubles, our No.1 doubles played great... We didn't play our best tennis today in doubles... In singles we stepped up and did what we had to do to get the win."

Wayne State will face Davenport University next on Friday, March 28th at their home venue.
