The Wayne State University men's golf team is leading through two rounds of the Ashland Spring Invitational held in Ashland, Ohio. The team stands in first place among nine participating schools, with a "B" team close behind in third place. Wayne State's strong performance is highlighted by Josh DiCarlo, who is tied for second individually in the 50-player field.
Head coach Mike Horn praised the team's effort, stating, "Fantastic day for the Warriors. Up and down the lineup, the guys played really, really well and battled rainy windy conditions to start the day. We were eight or nine guys deep with really good play and I can't say enough good things about everybody even though a couple scores that weren't where we want them to be. We're still in the ballpark. We are going to have to sharpen things up for tomorrow to hold off Missouri S&T. I look forward to a highly contested third round tomorrow."
In individual standings, Josh DiCarlo from Amherstburg, Ontario, matched his effort with a score of 140, tying him for second place. Max Leppelmeier and Tyler Hurtubise both share the fifth spot, each scoring 144. Other notable performances included Luc Warnock at 147 and Josh Lahner at 149.
The Wayne State "B" Team also delivered competitive results with Harrison Chapman tying for fifth, Ian Smith in ninth, and other team members rounding out respectable placings.
In the team standings, Wayne State leads with a score of 574, followed closely by Missouri S&T with a score of 576. The third and final round is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
