Wayne State men's tennis prepares for Upper Peninsula matchups

The Wayne State University men's tennis team, currently ranked 20th, is set to play two matches on the road this weekend. The Warriors will compete against Lake Superior State University on Friday, April 4, and Michigan Tech University on Saturday, April 5.

Recently, Wayne State split two matches, defeating Davenport 6-1 and then losing 3-4 against Grand Valley State. Against Davenport, the Warriors secured all three doubles matches and all but one singles match, earning a decisive 6-1 victory. In the matchup against Grand Valley State, after leveling the doubles matches, they lost momentum, ultimately losing the contest 4-3.

Lake Superior State is entering the weekend with a 7-3 record, including a 2-1 record in GLIAC play, and they have won their last two matches under new head coach Mike Andrews. Meanwhile, Michigan Tech, under interim head coach Riley Schreck, has a 3-5 record. They recently split matches, defeating Roosevelt 4-3 and suffering a defeat to Purdue Northwest 2-5.

According to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, Wayne State is ranked 20th. Cedric Drenth from Wayne State is ranked 29th in singles, while he and George Day are the 30th-ranked doubles pair.
