Wayne State University's baseball team managed a remarkable comeback victory against Roosevelt, winning 9-8 at Harwell Field. Entering the ninth inning, the Warriors faced a daunting 8-2 deficit but rallied impressively to secure the win. This marked their second walk-off victory over the Lakers in three games.
The hero of the day was Drew Hill, who initiated the rally with a single. Subsequent key contributions came from Jacoby Dale, who singled, and Bennett Hitzelberger, who doubled, increasing the pressure on their opponents. Mason McGuire's single reduced the gap to three runs, scoring two.
With two outs, Caleb Sanders added a double, while Reagan Paulina drew a walk to load the bases again. An essential double from pinch-hitter Owen Tuccinardi nearly tied the game, but a stuck ball in the fence prevented the tying run. Gabe Zeldes, substituting as a pinch-runner, advanced to third.
Brady Blakita walked, setting the stage for Hill to deliver the decisive hit, driving in both Zeldes and Tuccinardi. These contributions helped Wayne State attain its earlier runs, with Paulina and Dale each bringing runners home in distinct innings.
TJ McAllister pitched for the first time in his career, completing four and one-third innings, allowing three runs and delivering one strikeout. Macio Miller, the first reliever, gave up four runs, while Carson Tehan earned his first collegiate win, allowing one run in two innings.
The two teams are set to complete their series on Sunday, with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
