Wayne State women's track achieves historic results at Golden Grizzlies Invite

Wayne State University's women's outdoor track and field team showcased a strong performance at the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Invite held on Saturday in Detroit. The team managed to secure five top-10 finishes in the school's history across various events. These notable performances were achieved by Anna Gdowski in the 800m run, Megan Zahnow in the 100m hurdles, Taylor Hopkins in the Steeplechase, Elyse Miller in the 100m dash, and Renae Kutcha in the triple jump.

In individual results, Elyse Miller secured the fourth position in the 100m dash with a time of 12.29, marking the eighth-best in school records. In the 200m dash, Rachel Overgaard finished second with a time of 25.45. Anna Gdowski, achieving fourth place in school history, came in second in the 800m run with a time of 2:15.79, while Megan Zahnow earned fifth all-time by finishing third in the 100m hurdles.

The 3,000m steeplechase was marked by Taylor Hopkins, who achieved the second position with a time of 11:20.99, recording the sixth-best performance in Wayne State history. The 4x100m relay team, composed of Miller, Wilson, Bastiaansen, and Overgaard, finished first with a time of 47.68.

Other participants in various events also contributed to the team's overall strong showing. Nicole Warren took first place in the triple jump, and Makenzie Wellner won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.31.

These achievements highlight the preparations and efforts of the Wayne State squad as they continue their season. Their next competition is scheduled for April 12th at the CMU Chippewa Challenge in Mount Pleasant.
