Three student-athletes from Wayne State University have been recognized as nominees for the inaugural Allstate NACDA Good Works Team for Spring. The nominees are Robin Bresolin from women’s track and field, Cedric Drenth from men's tennis, and Anais Ruyssen from women's tennis. These individuals are the only ones from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to receive such recognition.
A total of 207 student-athletes were nominated for demonstrating leadership, service, and character beyond their sporting commitments. This recognition comes from nominations made by athletics administrators, conference office staff, and coaches. These nominees exemplify a commitment to academics, athletics, and community service.
Allstate and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced this program aimed at honoring students across various sports who show exceptional leadership and community impact. Elizabeth Brady, Allstate's chief marketing, customer and communications officer, emphasized the significance of these students’ contributions saying, "We honor their unwavering commitment to community service."
The selection committee, comprising athletics directors, former athletes, and industry leaders, will finalize a 20-member team on April 29. They will select 10 male and 10 female student-athletes, along with a student captain. The nominees span 13 collegiate spring sports including baseball, softball, tennis, golf, lacrosse, and track & field.
This initiative, which extended recognition beyond college football players to include all sports, was established in 2024. It aims to acknowledge student-athletes' leadership in community service, academics, and athletics. NACDA, founded 60 years ago, supports college athletics administrators in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It oversees various associations, foundations, and professional events.
