Wayne State University fencer Mahmoud Elsayed has achieved remarkable success at the Junior - Cadet World Championships in Wuxi, China, securing the gold medal in the Junior Men's Epee category and earning the title of World Champion.

This year's World Championships attracted over 1,000 fencers from nearly 100 countries, featuring competition across all three fencing disciplines: epee, foil, and sabre for both genders.

During the event, Elsayed maintained an unblemished 6-0 record in pool play, achieving a +15 touch differential (30-15). The freshman, seeded fifth for the direct-elimination stage, received a bye in the first round. He scored victories against Adrian Grunert of Slovakia (15-7), Cristiano Sena of Italy (15-12), Dohyun Kim of South Korea (15-9), Shengwei Peng of China (15-7), and Nathaniel Wimmer of the United States (15-11) to secure a place in the semi-finals.

In the semi-final, Elsayed faced Maksym Perchuk of Ukraine and won 15-9, advancing to the championship match. There, he competed against Matteo Galassi of Italy and emerged victorious with a score of 15-12, claiming the gold medal and the World Champion title.
