Wayne State University's fencing program has received significant recognition from the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA). Assistant coach Ahmed Elsayed was named Men's Team Assistant Coach of the Year, while student-athlete Mahmoud Elsayed earned both Men's Team Epee Athlete of the Year and Epee Newcomer of the Year.
The awards were determined through a nationwide vote by USFCA member fencing programs. Ahmed Elsayed's leadership contributed to the men's and women's epee squads achieving third and second-place finishes at the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Tournament. He also played a key role in Mahmoud Elsayed's success, as he tied for third at the NCAA Championships and earned First-Team All-American honors.
Ahmed Elsayed guided seven Wayne State University (WSU) student-athletes to CCFC All-Conference recognition. These athletes include Mahmoud Elsayed, Shuayb Dinkins, Reka Galfalvy, Salma Abdrabou, Ethan Leung, Ludovica Mancini, and Zeyad Nofal. The recognitions spanned across different weapons: epee for M. Elsayed, Dinkins, Galfalvy, and Abdrabou; foil for Leung and Mancini; and sabre for Nofal.
Mahmoud Elsayed had an impressive first year with WSU's Green and Gold team. He achieved First-Team All-CCFC honors after finishing first in the epee weapon at the conference tournament. His performance helped WSU's men's epee team secure third place. At the NCAA Championships, he reached the semifinals and finished tied-for-third, earning First Team All-American honors. Additionally, Mahmoud won gold at the Junior Men's Epee World Championship.
In addition to national accolades, several WSU fencers received USFCA All-Region honors. Mahmoud Elsayed was named First Team All-Region in men's epee. Reka Galfalvy received Second Team All-Region honors in women's epee, while Ludovica Mancini was recognized as an Honorable Mention in women's foil.
