The Wayne State University men's golf team is currently positioned 14th out of 20 teams after the first day of the 2025 Midwest/Central Super Regional at St. Joseph Country Club in Missouri. The Warriors ended the day with a team score of 301.
Central Oklahoma leads the tournament, having shot a four-under-par 280, which places them ten strokes ahead of their nearest competitors. Following Central Oklahoma are Central Missouri (+6), Missouri S&T and Arkansas Tech (both +8), Concordia St. Paul and Grand Valley State (both +10), Hillsdale (+11), Missouri-St. Louis and Harding (both +12), Southern Arkansas and Saginaw Valley State (both +13).
Findlay holds the 12th position with a score of +14, followed by Ferris State (+16) and Wayne State (+17). Ohio Dominican stands at +19, Winona State at +20, Henderson State and Ashland both at +22, Arkansas-Fort Smith at +23, and Washburn at +28.
Wayne State's performance was led by graduate student Josh DiCarlo from Amherstburg, Ontario, and redshirt senior Ian Smith from Canton, Michigan. Both players shot three-over-par rounds of 74. DiCarlo's round included four birdies along with seven bogeys and seven pars. Smith recorded two birdies, five bogeys, and eleven pars.
Graduate student Luc Warnock from McGregor, Ontario scored a five-over-par 76. Senior Tyler Hurtubise from Essex, Ontario finished with a six-over-par 77 while senior Max Leppelmeier from Wauseon, Ohio concluded his round with a seven-over-par 78.
Warnock’s card featured two birdies against seven bogeys and nine pars. Hurtubise had two birdies but also registered six bogeys alongside one double bogey in addition to nine pars. Leppelmeier completed his round with one birdie against eight bogeys plus nine pars.
The competition will continue as all teams are set to play another round on Friday followed by a final round on Saturday. The top four teams after completing these rounds will qualify for the national championship finals.
