Wayne State's Mason McGuire named D2CCA Second Team All-Region

Mason McGuire, a senior utility player from Wayne State University, has been recognized by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) as a Second Team All-Region player. This announcement was made on Monday.

McGuire has shown versatility on the field, having been voted Second Team All-GLIAC in two positions: catcher and second base. Last year, he received an Honorable Mention. Over the season, McGuire participated in 51 out of 55 games for Wayne State, starting in 49 of them across six different positions. His starts included roles such as catcher, shortstop, second base, right field, third base, and center field.

In terms of performance at bat, McGuire achieved a career-high batting average of .341 (59-for-173), ranking second on his team and tied for 12th in the league. He also led his team with 40 runs scored and had notable stats including nine doubles, three home runs, and 34 RBIs. Additionally, he had 27 walks and was hit by pitches three times. On the bases, he stole successfully 18 out of 19 attempts.

The Brighton native displayed consistency with 16 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games. He held the team's second-best hitting streak at 11 games and reached base consecutively over a span of 20 games. Throughout the season, he started in eight different spots within the batting order.

Furthermore, McGuire earned recognition as part of the GLIAC All-Tournament Team in the utility position after maintaining a .316 average during Wayne State's five tournament games.
