Wayne State University's women's volleyball team experienced its second loss of the 2025 season on Friday, falling to Davenport University in a 3-0 match held at the DU Student Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Warriors' overall record now stands at 8-2, with a conference mark of 2-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Davenport improved to 6-4 overall and remains undefeated in GLIAC play at 3-0.
During the match, Wayne State posted a hitting percentage of .238, recording 46 kills and 17 errors on 122 attacks. Davenport countered with a .298 hitting percentage—marking the highest by any Wayne State opponent so far this season—with 47 kills and just 10 errors on 124 swings.
The opening set saw Wayne State take an early lead of up to eight points at 11-3 but eventually lost the set as Davenport hit .429 offensively. The Warriors’ most efficient set was also the first, where they achieved a .270 attack percentage. In the second set, Wayne State led by six points late (22-16) before dropping it in extra points.
Paige Giehtbrock led Wayne State with 11 kills and a .258 hitting percentage, while Kayla Giroux contributed ten kills at .200. Leigha Baldwin added nine kills (.467), and Katerina Stout had eight (.538). Setter Kayla Dulgar finished with 38 assists. Abby Macalaguim and Lauren Essenpreis each tallied two service aces.
Defensively, Kendyl Andrews led all players with sixteen digs; Macalaguim added eleven. At the net, Giroux registered Wayne State’s only solo block while Dulgar and Stout each recorded two block assists.
The Warriors will continue their four-match road trip on Saturday afternoon when they face nationally ranked Ferris State in Big Rapids for a scheduled first serve at 3 p.m.
