Wayne State University's men's golf team secured first place at the Motor City Shakedown held Tuesday at TPC Michigan in Dearborn. The Warriors finished with a three-round total of 879 (+15), five strokes ahead of Davenport, which took second place.

Three Wayne State golfers were named to the six-member All-Tournament Team. Will Pollack finished second individually, Troy Chapman placed third, and Josh Lahner came in fourth.

"All I've got to say is wow," said head coach Mike Horn. "I did not think we were coming back for a victory today. We sputtered early and didn't really have anything going and then the final six holes, we showed up. We played those six holes minus seven as a team and hats off to every guy on the squad for battling until the end. Congratulations to Troy Chapman on really helping us gain that victory. Congrats to Josh (Lahner), Will (Pollack) and Troy (Chapman) for all being in the All-Tournament Team (top five). This should be a great example of winning when you don't have your best early on, but if you keep after it and keep grinding, the outcome is never certain. You can always be in charge of your destiny."

Other notable finishes for Wayne State included Andrew Daily and Harrison Chapman, who tied for seventh with scores of 226 (+10). Jack Julian finished tied for 14th with a score of 228 (+12).

The team standings saw Roosevelt finish third with a score of 915 (+51), Northern Michigan in fourth at 921 (+57), and Purdue Northwest fifth at 931 (+67).

Wayne State's next competition will be Findlay's Doc Spragg Fall Invitational on October 13-14 at Findlay Country Club in Ohio.
