Wayne State men’s swimming and diving adds three recruits for upcoming season

The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team has announced the addition of three new student-athletes for the 2025-26 season. Head coach Sean Peters, who is entering his 29th year with the program, confirmed that Griffin Damuth, Lucas Safta, and Paul DeMartini will join the roster.

Griffin Damuth comes from Belmont, Michigan, where he graduated from Grand Rapids Northview High School. Damuth was a four-year letterwinner under coach Rob Damuth and achieved personal bests including 57.66 seconds in the 100 breaststroke at the 2025 MHSAA Division 2 state meet and 2:11.66 in the 200 breaststroke at the MLA Ultra Championships. He also posted a personal-best time of 1:57.91 in the 200 IM to finish 11th at the state meet and swam 4:52.12 in the 500 freestyle prelims at the 2024 state meet. Damuth served as team captain as a senior and received Academic All-America recognition.

Lucas Safta joins from Windsor, Ontario, after graduating from Belle River District High School. Safta was a four-year letterwinner for coaches Mike McWah and Jimmy Lee. He recorded a personal-best time of 57.33 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke at the 2025 MI OLY Michigan Open and 2:05.82 in the 200 breaststroke at the same event. His other top performances include a 25.03-second finish in the 50 short free at the Border City Invitational and a personal best of 1:00.18 in the 100 short backstroke at Toronto’s NYAC Cup.

Paul DeMartini is from Farmington, Michigan, where he graduated from Farmington High School as a four-year letterwinner under coach Drew Hansz. As a senior, DeMartini earned All-State recognition in three events and placed fourth in the 100 butterfly with a personal-best of 49.73 seconds during prelims at the state swim meet. He swam on Farmington's state champion relay team and achieved additional personal bests including a time of 1:55.08 in the 200 IM prelims.

Coach Sean Peters expressed optimism about adding these athletes to his squad for next season.
