Wayne State volleyball returns home to face Parkside and Roosevelt

After four consecutive away games, the Wayne State University women's volleyball team is set to play at home this week. The Warriors, with a 10-3 overall record and 4-2 in the GLIAC, will host Parkside on Friday at 7 p.m. and Roosevelt on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Head coach Tim Koth commented on the upcoming matches: "We are happy to be back home for these two important conference matches. Parkside is having an exceptional season and Roosevelt looks to be much improved. It should be an entertaining weekend for our Mental Health Awareness and Pink Out events in the Matthaei."

Kayla Giroux recently earned her fifth career Offensive Player of the Week honor, her second this season. She recorded a .324 hitting percentage with 31 kills and nine errors over 68 attacks. In the team's 3-2 win against No. 18 Grand Valley State, Giroux had 21 kills on 45 attempts with a .356 hitting percentage. She added 10 kills on 23 attacks in the win over Purdue Northwest.

Kayla Dulgar was named Setter of the Week for the fifth time in her career and second this fall. She totaled 82 assists (10.25 per set), three service aces, and 15 digs over the recent matches.

The Warriors are ranked among the top 50 teams nationally in several categories, including opponent hitting percentage (18th), assists per set (40th), win percentage (42nd), kills per set (43rd), and blocks per set (48th). Individually, Giroux is 26th in hitting percentage (.379) and 49th in kills per set (3.66). Dulgar is 23rd in assists per set (10.26) and 48th in total assists (482).

Parkside began its season with nine straight wins under head coach Leigh Barea, marking its best start ever. The Rangers now hold a 10-3 overall record and a 3-3 mark in GLIAC play. Nationally, Parkside ranks high in digs per set (21st) and assists per set (27th). Key players include Ava Irvin with 179 kills, Sam Fisch with 173 kills, Lucy Russ with 478 assists, and Natalie Harris with 23 service aces and 289 digs—ranking her first in the GLIAC for both total digs and digs per set.

On defense, Harris leads with 289 digs, while Fisch, Maia Olson, and Mariena Coon have contributed significantly with blocks.

Roosevelt is looking for its first conference win after losing its last 12 matches. The Lakers are led by Alessia Isgro with 105 kills, Zoe Hutchinson with 178 assists, Isa Grana with 109 assists and 102 digs, Cydney Martinez with 12 aces and 139 digs, and Lihi Zaibert with 25 blocks. Head coach Nicasio Paquiz, Jr., is in his eighth year with a record of 47-158.
