Wayne State University's women's swimming and diving team began its 2025-26 season with a strong performance at the Davenport Invitational in Kentwood, Michigan. The Warriors won 10 out of 17 events and led the five-team competition with a total score of 1,020.5 points.
Head coach Sean Peters commented on the team's performance, saying, "The meet was a great success for the Warriors. We went in with an open mind and wanted to gauge where we are at, and I think there is a lot of potential and there were successful performances. I didn't expect too much, as it is our first meet, but i definitely think that the goods were good, and the 'needs improved' will get there. Either way, we learned a lot this weekend, and happy we are under way."
The team secured victories in both relay events: the 200 free relay (Lily Lindower, Kate Rhodes, Kelsey Milz, Josey Coon) finished with a time of 1:37.76; and the 400 free relay (Josey Coon, Elly Belmore, Kate Rhodes, Lilian Ljuckanov) posted a time of 3:34.91.
Individual event winners included Lilian Ljuckanov in the 500 free (5:05.75), Emma Crispo in the 200 IM (2:07.70), Elly Belmore in both the 400 IM (4:29.61) and 200 backstroke (2:05.07), Emily Hedley in the 200 free (1:56.88), Diana Muccioli in both the 1000 free (10:30.79) and 200 fly (2:11.80), and Josey Coon in the 100 free (53.27).
The next event on Wayne State's schedule is the Detroit Diving Classic on Saturday, October 18 at noon inside Matthaei Natatorium where they will compete against Aquinas College and Davenport University.
