The Wayne State University women's golf team is currently in fifth place out of 12 teams after the first round of the Davenport Panther Invitational, which is being played at Stonehedge North in Augusta, Michigan. The tournament serves as a preview for the GLIAC Championships that will take place on the same course in the spring.
After 18 holes, Ting-Yu Kuo is tied for fourth with a score of 73 (+1), while Claudia Portillo is tied for tenth after shooting a 76 (+4). Other Wayne State golfers include Clara Laffitte, who sits tied for nineteenth with a 78 (+6); Orianna Bylsma, tied for thirty-eighth with an 81 (+9); and Sonia Bayahya, who is tied for fortieth after posting an 82 (+10).
Northwood leads the team standings with a score of 301 (+13), holding a four-stroke lead over second-place Saginaw Valley State. Lewis (306), Ohio Dominican (307), and Wayne State (308) round out the top five, with only four shots separating second through fifth places.
The competition will continue Sunday morning when all twelve teams are scheduled to begin simultaneously at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start.
