Grosse Pointe Theatre will present the beloved musical The Sound of Music.

Performances will be held at Parcells Middle School Auditorium, in Grosse Pointe Woods.
With beautiful music by Rogers and Hammerstein, The Sound of Music, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, tells the story of a young postulant, Maria, who is assigned by her superior, Mother Abbess, to serve as a governess for Captain Georg von Trapp’s seven children. The setting is Austria, shortly before the takeover of Nazi Germany in 1938.
As the talented cast and crew prepare to present this beautiful production of The Sound of Music to audiences, a similar real-life crisis is underway in Ukraine, abruptly causing millions of families to flee their homes in search of a safe place to live. With so many parallels to The Sound of Music, Grosse Pointe Theatre is partnering with Samaritas’ New Americans refugee resettlement program to collect personal hygiene items for refugee families from Ukraine and other countries who resettle in southeast Michigan.
Grosse Pointe Theatre will be collecting the personal hygiene items in the auditorium lobby before each performance. For a full list of needed items, visit www.gpt.org/music.
Grosse Pointe Theatre’s production of The Sound of Music is made possible through the generous support of the John A. and Marlene L. Boll Foundation.
Friday, July 1 at 8 p.m., Saturday, July 2 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, July 3 at 2 p.m.
For tickets visit www.gpt.org/music or call 313- 881-4004.
