Wayne State University’s baseball team is set to return to the field this weekend after a two-week break. The Warriors, holding a 2-2 record, will face Ohio Dominican in a neutral site series at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The teams are scheduled for back-to-back doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.

Previously, Wayne State split their games against Newberry with victories of 11-9 and 6-3. Reagan Paulina led the team’s offense with a .455 average, while Gavin Nash excelled on the mound with no earned runs over five innings. Drew Hill contributed five hits alongside Paulina, and Rocco Cardinale maintained a clean ERA across his appearances from the bullpen.

Ohio Dominican enters the series with an 0-4 record after being swept by Coker earlier this month. Despite their early struggles, senior third baseman Jake Scherette has been effective offensively with a .400 average and five RBIs. Senior Drew Emerson also showed promise with a .385 batting average.

The Panthers’ pitching staff has faced challenges this season, recording a collective ERA of 13.18 over 28 innings. Sophomore Trayce Mercer has been one of their bright spots, allowing only one earned run in six innings pitched.

Ohio Dominican was predicted to finish second in their division within the Great Midwest Athletic Conference before the season started. They are coached by Christopher Antonides who is now in his eighth year leading the program.
