The Wayne State University baseball team qualified on May 11 for the NCAA Tournament as the three seed in the Midwest Regional. The Warriors, who have a 37-14 overall record, will face sixth-seeded Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday at 3 p.m. eastern time.
This marks the program’s eleventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its ninth under head coach Ryan Kelley, who is in his eighteenth year with Wayne State. The team has reached this stage three times in the last five seasons. At Midwest Regional No. 2, Wayne State joins host Illinois Springfield (second seed), UIndy (seventh seed), and Missouri-St. Louis (sixth seed). The four-day tournament schedule begins Thursday and runs through Sunday.
The full schedule includes opening games between Illinois Springfield and UIndy at 11 a.m., followed by Wayne State against Missouri-St. Louis at 2 p.m., both central time on Thursday. Additional games are set for Friday through Sunday, with a possible seventh game if necessary to determine which team advances.
Midwest Regional No. 1 will be hosted by Grand Valley State, featuring teams such as Missouri S&T, Davenport, and Kentucky Wesleyan alongside the top-seeded Lakers.
According to the official website, Wayne State plays its home games in Detroit, Michigan; competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division II level; uses ‘Warriors’ as its athletics nickname with ‘W the Warrior’ as mascot; and captured a GLIAC Tournament title in 2010.
The winners of each double-elimination regional will advance to play a best-of-three super regional series for a spot in the Division II College World Series.
