Wayne State University’s baseball team split a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican, winning the first game 7-3 and losing the second 3-2. The Warriors now hold a 4-4 overall record, while Ohio Dominican stands at 2-6. Wayne State’s next game is scheduled in nine days in Winter Haven, Florida, against Ashland during the RussMatt Invitational.

In the first game, Wayne State took an early lead with five runs before Ohio Dominican scored. Mason McGuire started the scoring by coming home on a wild pitch. Bennett Hitzelberger drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in Tony Hatzigeorgiou. Additional runs were driven in by Jacoby Dale and Owen Tuccinardi, giving Wayne State control of the game.

Ohio Dominican managed to score one run each in the fourth and fifth innings. However, Wayne State extended their lead when Tuccinardi doubled to score McGuire and Drew Hill hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.

Macio Miller pitched four innings for Wayne State, allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts. Carson Tehan and Ethan Getting provided relief pitching to secure the win.

In the second game, Ohio Dominican kept Wayne State’s offense quiet until late in the match. Trailing 3-0 going into their final inning at bat, Dale and Hill walked before Hitzelberger hit a double that scored both runners. Despite this effort, McGuire’s fly out ended any chance of a comeback.

Gavin Nash pitched six innings for Wayne State but was charged with the loss after allowing three earned runs on seven hits. TJ McAllister closed out with a perfect seventh inning for Wayne State.
