Following a 4-1 defeat in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader at the SVSU Baseball Complex, the Wayne State University baseball team regained momentum to defeat Saginaw Valley State with a commanding 13-2 victory in the second game.

In the first matchup, Saginaw Valley State secured four runs within the initial three innings, resulting in a three-run victory. Wayne State’s notable moment came when Drew Hill, from Grosse Pointe Woods, executed a homer off SVSU’s pitcher Jack Decker, marking Hill’s fourth home run of the season. Mason McGuire from Lyon Twp. contributed with a single and a walk across his appearances.

Gabe Nazelli, originating from Farmington Hills, began on the mound for WSU, followed by Macio Miller from Kimball, who impressively struck out four opponents while allowing no hits or runs.

In the second game, freshman Braylon Laroo of Canton delivered an outstanding performance. After permitting two initial runs, Laroo retired 21 consecutive hitters, completing the game on 95 pitches and advancing to a 3-0 season record. Laroo set new personal bests in both innings pitched and strikeouts.

Wayne State’s offensive outburst included a total of 13 runs, equating their highest against a GLIAC contender this season. Noteworthy contributions during the third and fourth innings, including Reagan Paulina’s home run and Owen Tuccinardi’s impactful double, highlighted an expansive team effort.

Wayne State aims to even the series in Sunday’s concluding match scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the University Center.
