Wayne State University’s men’s basketball team secured a narrow 67-66 victory against Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. The Warriors improved their record to 13-12 overall and 9-8 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), matching Grand Valley’s record. Wayne State has shown a strong performance on Thursdays this season, boasting a 9-1 record, including an 8-1 mark in conference play.

The game saw Wayne State taking control early on. Junior Carmelo Harris from Flint, Michigan, played a significant role by scoring crucial points throughout the first half. His efforts helped the Warriors lead at halftime with a score of 33-22.

In the second half, Grand Valley State attempted to close the gap with consecutive three-pointers by Jalen Charity and Charles Turner. However, Wayne State maintained its lead through contributions from players like Jordan Briggs and Carlos Paul III.

Despite a late surge by Grand Valley that included three triples by Kaden Brown in the final seconds, Wayne State managed to hold onto their lead and secure the win.

Carmelo Harris led Wayne State with 18 points while Jordan Briggs added 17 off the bench. Ray Williams Jr. was notable for his seven rebounds. For Grand Valley, Jalen Charity scored 18 points and Kaden Brown contributed significantly in the closing moments with his three triples.

Wayne State will continue its road games with an upcoming match against Davenport on Saturday at 3 p.m.
