Five members of the Wayne State University women’s fencing team have been recognized for their academic achievements by being named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic Excellence Team for the 2024-25 season. This marks a significant achievement as it ties for the second-highest number of Excellence Team members in the program’s history. The GLIAC has been recognizing student-athletes from non-GLIAC sports with All-Academic distinctions for six years.

To qualify, student-athletes must be active on the roster at season’s end and cannot be freshmen or first-year transfer students. Grade-point averages are calculated through the fall semester, which was the last grading period before the season concluded.

The following athletes were selected for their outstanding academic performance, maintaining a cumulative GPA between 3.5 and 4.0:

Salma Abdrabou, a sophomore from Cairo, Egypt, studying Technology, Information Systems and Analytics, achieved a GPA of 3.97 in her first year of eligibility.

Reka Galfalvy, also a sophomore from Budapest, Hungary, majoring in Marketing Honors, earned a GPA of 3.86 in her first year of eligibility.

Ludovica Mancini, a junior from Rome, Italy, studying Global Studies, maintained a GPA of 3.95 and is on the All-Academic Excellence Team for the second consecutive year.

Vika Shevchenko from Troy, Michigan is pursuing Exercise and Sport Science as a graduate student with a GPA of 3.80; she is recognized on this squad for the second straight year after two years on the All-Academic team.

Mehreen Siddiqui from Canton, Michigan is majoring in Biochem & Chem Bio Honors as a junior with an impeccable GPA of 4.00; she too makes her second consecutive appearance on this team.

Additionally, all five athletes received CSC Academic All-District honors. Notably, Reka Galfalvy and Ludovica Mancini also competed at the NCAA Championships.
