HOLLAND, Mich. — The Wayne State University men’s swimming and diving team remains in second place as they enter the final day of competition. Freshmen William Debroux and Olin Charnstrom led the team’s efforts with individual victories. Debroux won the 500-yard freestyle, while Charnstrom claimed first place in the 100-yard backstroke. Both athletes achieved NCAA B Cuts with their performances.

The current team standings are as follows: Grand Valley State leads with 572 points, followed by Wayne State with 495 points. Northern Michigan holds third place with 422.5 points, and St. Cloud State is fourth with 360 points.

In the 500-yard freestyle championship final, Debroux finished first with a time of 4:22.75, securing an NCAA B Cut. Khalil Ben Ajmia placed third, also achieving an NCAA B Cut with a time of 4:27.48, while Harrison Arnold came in fourth at 4:29.34.

Charnstrom’s victory in the 100-yard backstroke was marked by a time of 47.22, earning him an NCAA B Cut as well. Gabriel Arias finished fourth at 48.43, and Lorenzo Tassinari took sixth place at 48.80.

In other events, Clayton Kinnard secured third place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.79, meeting the NCAA B Cut standard.

Trevor Jones competed in the championship final of the 200-yard butterfly and finished seventh with a time of 1:50.25, while Matt Hernandez participated in the consolation final and placed thirteenth at 1:51.92.

The team also performed well in the relay events; they secured third place in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:34.83, achieving another NCAA B Cut.
