The Wayne State University men’s basketball program announced on May 9 that it will hold a one-day Elite Camp for high school boys on Friday, June 5.
The camp is designed to give ninth through twelfth grade students an opportunity to develop their skills and learn from college coaches. According to the announcement, participants will “leave with a better idea of what it takes to be a college basketball player at all levels” and have the chance to compete against other top high school players in both team and individual settings. The event will feature competitive drills, combine testing, five-on-five gameplay, evaluations by college coaches, and a meet-and-greet with Wayne State University players and staff.
Check-in for the camp begins at 5:00 PM, with activities running from 5:45 PM until 9:00 PM. The cost is $70 per player. Each participant must submit or bring completed concussion information and sports camp health forms as part of registration requirements.
Wayne State’s coaching staff will be joined by coaches from other colleges and universities who will observe and evaluate campers throughout the evening. The Wayne State Warriors Men’s Basketball program competes in NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; it maintains historical records of achievements including all-time top players lists and has seen athletes earn honors such as GLIAC Player of the Year according to the official website.
The program serves Detroit as part of Wayne State University’s athletics department initiative in collegiate sports, also maintaining extensive documentation of its history and statistics according to the official website.
Broader interest in such camps reflects ongoing efforts by university athletic programs to engage local youth athletes while providing pathways toward collegiate competition.
