The Wayne State University men’s golf team finished the first two rounds of the NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional in 11th place among 20 teams, according to a May 8 update from the university. The event is being held at Ferris State’s Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan.

This result is significant as it affects the team’s chances of advancing to the finals later this month. After posting a team score of 12-over-par 300 on day two, Wayne State’s total for two rounds stands at 594. The tournament consists of three rounds and will conclude on Saturday.

Head coach Mike Horn said, “A very disappointing day for the Warriors. As well as we executed yesterday, we did not execute today. We gave great effort, but did not execute anywhere close to a championship team today. We had a decent round from Andrew Daily and Will Pollack. The NCAA Tournament requires more than that.” Horn added, “I know we’ve got more in us and I hope we get solid execution from five guys tomorrow. We don’t have to break a school record tomorrow, but we’ve got to have every guy shooting somewhere around 70-71 and we would have a chance. All in all this has been a successful year, but we want to give our best effort tomorrow so we don’t have to think about what might have been.”

Among individual performances after two days: Andrew Daily is tied for 19th with scores of 71-74 (+1), Jack Julian and Will Pollack are tied for 38th (+5), Josh Lahner is tied for 76th (+10), and Troy Chapman is tied for 90th (+13). In team standings between tenth and fifteenth place: Davenport leads this group at tenth with a score of +16 (592), followed by Wayne State at +19 (594).

Round three will take place Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m., though Wayne State’s first player will tee off at approximately 10:00 a.m., according to information provided by the university release.

The Wayne State Warriors Men’s Golf holds membership in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and participates in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics; it operates out of Detroit, Michigan according to the official website.

At conclusion of regional play, the top three teams along with top two individuals not affiliated with an advancing team will move forward to compete in finals scheduled May 18–22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
