The Wayne State University men’s golf team finished the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional on May 7 tied for fifth place out of 20 programs at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan. The Warriors recorded a six-over-par score of 294, matching Central Missouri in the standings.

This performance places Wayne State among the top teams as they aim to advance through three rounds in a competitive field. Advancement to the finals is determined by finishing among the top three teams or being one of the top two individual players not with an advancing team.

Head coach Mike Horn said, “As usual, we played in cold and very windy conditions. A great round today by Andrew Daily and Jack Julian. The hole locations and the green complexes were very difficult today. Some of the best teams in the country struggled mightily and I am very proud of how our guys battled all day. Tomorrow’s a critical day for us to build upon our solid play today. We need all five guys to be in the mix. We can’t have any outlier scores and we need at least two of our guys to do what they did today. Very good start for the Warriors.”

Andrew Daily led Wayne State with a score of 71 (-1), tying him for tenth place individually out of 108 golfers who completed all eighteen holes. Jack Julian followed closely with an even-par round (72), tying for twelfth place, while Josh Lahner posted a 75 (+3) and Will Pollack scored a 76 (+4). Troy Chapman rounded out Wayne State’s lineup with an 81 (+9).

The second round will take place Friday, starting at 10 a.m., though Wayne State’s first participant will tee off at approximately 2:10 p.m.

The Wayne State Warriors Men’s Golf holds membership in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, participates in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics, and operates from Detroit, Michigan, according to their official website.

Looking ahead, if successful over three rounds at regionals, Wayne State could qualify for finals scheduled May 18–22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
